Indigenous Art Market and Challenge Games

Red Wing Arts and The Honoring Dakota Project present the 3rd Annual Indigenous Artist Market, a vibrant celebration of indigenous artistry and culture, taking place on Wednesday, July 16th from 2:00 to 9:00 PM in Central Park. This special event will feature a diverse array of local and regional Indigenous artists showcasing their crafts, challenge games, food trucks, and music by Tiana Spotted Thunder and Willows
Announcing the exhilarating Indigenous Art Market Relay Race Challenge, where community spirit and friendly competition take center stage. This spirited event invites Prairie Island and Red Wing community members to form teams to compete against each other in a thrilling series of relay races. The excitement culminates in one team claiming the coveted traveling trophy medallion and, of course, all-important bragging rights.

The community learned about the traditions and protocols around the wacipi [wah-CHEE-pee] so you can respectfully and joyfully participate in our region’s events throughout the year. Wacipis (powwows) are inclusive events and everyone is invited.
Welcome Back Pezi Hota to He Mni Can - June 8, 2023
Pezi Hota (Pä-zhë Hö-tâ meaning Gray Grass) is plentiful at the Prairie Island Elder Gardens and yearning to return to He Mni Can. This engagement provided an opportunity to connect with the land, our plant relatives, and our community while engaging in purposeful work. We learned about our plant relative and welcomed Pezi Hota back to He Mni Can.
Tipi Teachings ”This is Home” - July 22, 2023
We gathered as a community around the newly painted community tipi for cultural teachings.
Conducting the tipi painting and Tipi Teachings at Bay Point and Central Park was significant, as many Prairie Island Indian Community relatives called this place home. Grandparents were born in Tipis at the base of He Mni Can and Bay Point Park.

This community presentation and conversation honored the history of our buffalo relatives who roamed on the land we call home and offered to teach us about how to live today and in our future. We learned about the PIIC Edwing W. Buck Jr. Veteran Memorial Buffalo Project.
